      History of the house

Our Italian home at Via Canevali 10 was the original convent building of Lanzo in the centre of the town. Built in 1740 it served as the convent for the nuns until it was bought by an aristocratic Milanese family and converted into a beautiful family holiday home. This was during a period when Lanzo was the preferred holiday destination to "take in the mountain air" for Milanese families escaping the heat of Milan in the summer months or holidaying and skiing in the winter months. Many large private villas were built in Lanzo for this purpose.

At the turn of the 20th century, the house was divided by the original family into three houses for the last remaining family members.

We bought Via Canevali 10 from its second owner, a Milanese family who used it as their holiday villa for 20 years – making us the proud third owners of this beautiful property after the original Sisters.

We are continuing to research the history of the house and will let you know what other interesting stories we find over time.
